The Mountain Rescue Unit (M.R.U.) is the oldest unit within the Hellenic Rescue Team. It is composed of members who love the mountains and actively participate in mountain sports. The purpose of the Mountain Rescue Unit is to provide assistance, search, and rescue whenever the need arises.

Members of the unit are trained in rescue procedures for all types of terrain, ensuring they can respond effectively in any season and across all mountain environments.

The unit is a member of ICAR-CISA, the International Commission for Alpine Rescue.
